Is Snacking Replacing Our Meals: Meet Snealing
As the life feels like everything is happening so fast and at the same time, financial pressure, and stress increase, we have less time, disposable income, and energy for traditional meals. With all of these elements combined, we get a name for this ongoing trend in 2026 at IFT First, held last week in Chicago: snealing.
Originating from the words “snacking” and “meals”, snealing means eating nutritionally dense, on-the-go, little to no preparation required snacks instead of preparing a structured, traditional meal. Rabobank projects that U.S. food inflation could reach 6% due to geopolitical tensions and higher energy costs. As food budgets tighten, consumers are looking for convenient products that offer clear nutritional value with minimal preparation. High protein levels remain a must-have for survival, but fiber has become a strong differentiating factor. Back in October 2025, Dr. Kantha Shelke talked about this, and highlighted satiety over and over again when it comes to formulating snacks that align with this approach.
An innovative example that fits into the “snealing” category is BUFFS. Following its recent $1.1 million pre-seed raise, BUFFS is bringing grass-fed freeze-dried beef puffs with 10-12 grams of protein in 170-180 calories per 35 gr bag, depending on the flavor. They are committed to bringing the best of both worlds, designing their product to be both fun and healthy. The opportunity for brands may not be to eliminate traditional meals, but to make snacks feel increasingly meal-worthy.
The rise of GLP-1 medications is another factor accelerating the snealing trend. Because GLP-1 medications reduce appetite, some users are prioritizing smaller eating occasions with greater nutrient density. For example, Clare is a new all-in-one nutritional supplement designed for this use that delivers 10g of protein, 4g of prebiotic fiber, a selection of vitamins and minerals in 60 calories in a powder mixed with water.
Which do you prefer: a structured meal or a convenient snack that checks most of your nutritional boxes?

Nowstalgia
Nostalgia is the dominant force of 2026. This started with the viral “2026 is the new 2016” trend on TikTok, then Legacy IP’s like Toy Story 5 and Scary Movie returned to theaters this summer, and reunion tours are happening everywhere.
The sweets snack industry follows the same script. Iconic brands are relaunching old favorites, either a tweaked version of their own products or a familiar feeling. GoodPop is a great example of bringing a nostalgic taste into the modern market.
Two years ago, before this trend even started, they came up with Fudge n’ Vanilla French Fry Pop to recreate the iconic vanilla milkshake and fries duo. Now in 2026, with this trend gaining popularity everyday, they brought this limited edition permanently. While GoodPop modernizes a familiar eating experience, Little Debbie combines popular products from within its own portfolio. One example is Nutty Buddy Creme Pies, which translate the familiar chocolate-and-peanut-butter profile of Nutty Buddy Wafer Bars into Little Debbie’s classic creme-pie format.
There is an irony worth mentioning: staying relevant in 2026 means being nostalgic.
That’s it for this week.
